Weight loss refers to the reduction of the total body mass in the context of medicine. Losing body mass by loss of liquid, body fat like bone mineral deposits, muscle, tendon, and other connective tissue.  Sometimes it can happen unintentionally because of malnourishment or an underlying disease or from a continuous effort to improve an actual or perceived  overweight or obese state. When “Unexplained” weight loss occurs due to reduction in caloric intake or exercise is called cache xia and it can be a symptom of a serious medical condition and one must consult a doctor. Intentional weight loss is known as slimming.

Sometimes unintentional weight loss can cause a serious problem. It’s better to consult a doctor if you are losing weight continuously. Not all weight loss is serious but it can be very stressful. Unintentional weight loss may be a sign of one of these medical condition given below:

Muscle loss can lead to unintentional weight loss. The major symptom is muscle weakness.In certain cases your limbs may look smaller than the other one. This problem  can arise  if you don’t use muscles for a while. Generally, exercise and proper nutrition will protect you from  muscle loss.

Weight loss can be the side effect of depression. It affects some parts of the brain that control appetite. This can result into poor appetite, and eventually, weight loss. In some people, depression increase appetite.
